23 CURRENT

"Sound
And Light"
Interview with
Shawn Burnette
By Sergio Vilar
Thanks for your time and interest to
answer these questions. I would like them to speak to each other
a little about 23 Current. Please, count us about your
beginnings and of your musical evolution...
I got bored playing with my instrument, so
I started playing musical ones.
Why did 23 Current choose how it names for the band? What does it mean?
It has a lot to do with the 23 enigma.
We chose it because DNA won out.
Which is the musical essence of 23 Current?
Hopefully, honest and unique.
Musically you were always framed inside the same aesthetic style?
No, it changes a little every day.
Would I like that we speak of “Curve Of The Universe”, your album… How
was the creative process of this work?
We just basically tried to write a good
Prog Rock disc.
That they speak the lyrics of your songs?
They deal a lot with mysticism and
discovery.
What does it inspire them when writing?
Mostly, realization... oh, and weed and
Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs!
Are you fully satisfied with the obtained result?
Overall, yes, but there's always room
for improvement.
Is it premature to speak of a new disc? Does new clever material already
exist?
I've had some premature experiences in
the past, but this isn't one of them. There is material for a new disc
written.
Do other projects exist in those that are involved besides the band?
Possibly.
How this the scene of the progressive rock in US? Are there many people
that listen this music type?
In the US, it's under-appreciated and
misunderstood for the most part, but there is an underground following.
Some especially that you want to recommend us to listen?
“Gayane's
Adagio”
from the “Gayane
ballet suite”
(“2001:
A Space Odyssey”) and The Cartoon Network's
All-Star Soundtrack.
Well Shawn, what would you tell to our readers so that they are
interested in listening 23 Current?
If you like Prog Rock or just rock
music, you'll probably like this CD.
Again I thank them to share this moment with Nucleus. If you want it
they can leave some final message to our readers...
As long as there's music and women in
the world, there's absolutely no reason to be unhappy.
