“Between
Technique
and Melody”
Interview with
the member of this excellent new Italian band.
By
Sergio Vilar
Who
makes Auticada and what musical backgrounds do you have?
Max
Pirotti:
Auticada was born in 1996 from the ashes of a cover band called
Imnoqua.
Divide
Lamagni
and Marco Baldini and Antonio Facchini were members of
that band. The intent was doing Italian rock covers, but after a short
time creativity is born and has carried the band until this days.
How did
you come up with the name Auticada?
Marco
Baldini:
The monicker Auticada was chosen by our previous singer, Alex
Zani, and it is a bird’s scientific name.
What are
your major influences? What kind of sound are you trying to achieve?
Davide
Lamagni:
Our influences are various and goes from classical music to rock We are
trying to reach the right mix between technique and melody.
Is there
a creative community you do identify with and consider yourself a member
of?
Riccardo
Roverso:
Sincerrely , we aren’table to find an exact classification , seen that
we don’t play only a pure kind of music.
What are
some of the ideas or concepts you had in mind in making the “Aurea”
record?
Massimo
Piasenti:
Our intention was to bring all our experience in a record worthy of care
from audience.
Could
you give me a brief description of each song?
Max
Pirotti:
“Dimentica” is the opening song that introduces the listener to
the voyage that start with “Aurea”, a two sided song. It gives a
very architectonic form to the sound and it recalls the classicism and
symmetry of Mozart classical music, with a little dose of baroque music.
Songs
by “Bianca Luce” and “Re dei Re” exalt the epic/symphonic
side with sumptuous riders.
“Vivo”
and the “Sesto senso” suite have a sonic variety that gives
incessant time changes to the listener. And then, there are the ballads
“Strega” and “Nel mio blu” that have a sweet touch of
melody and a great performance by the vocalist Riccardo.
What
conditions are most conductive to working on your music? Where do you
find inspirations and what’s the creative process like for you? Are all
members of Auticada involved in the creative process?
Davide
Lamagni:
Everyone helps on arrangements, so we say that is a collective work.
Some songs born from structure bringed by someone, or by a simple
starting theme that we build after all together.
Do other
projects exist in those that members of the band are involved?
Riccardo
Roverso:
Massimo Piasenti plays in a cover band, while Massimo Pirotti
has a solo project called MaterManto.
What’s
your take on progressive rock in general? Do you think it is still a
viable from music?
Marco
Baldini:
Progressive rock will be forever a kind of music that can evolve, seen
that it is based on various musical styles. We think progressive will be
forever fundamental in the music panorama.
What are
you listening to now? What’s made the biggest impact on you as a
musicians?
Max
Pirotti:
We listen from classical music to Metal Rock and are impressed by the
perfect union between technique and compositive taste. We adore bands
like Dream Theater and Shadow Gallery above all.
What are
your plans, short- and long- term? Any plans for a new work in progress?
Massimo
Piasenti:
We are now preparing for a show to support our CD and we are working on
new songs for a second album, that will surely come out after one year.
