El estilo que sigue este grupo ingles de la segunda mitad de los 70, City Boy, lo podríamos calificar como pop-rock-progresivo-hard-AOR-melódico, y están influenciados por Styx, 10cc, Electric Light Orchestra, Supertramp y Queen entre otros. Pero para entender mejor como suenan, me refiero a un grupo actual, los suecos A.C.T., ya que City Boy son una de sus principales influencias, y se nota bastante. "The Day the Earth Caught Fire" es ya el quinto álbum del grupo.
Temas donde se entremezclan las melodías y juegos vocales y el hard rock, con buenas dosis de teclados, principalmente piano, simples canciones pero con bastante gancho e instrumentación de calidad, donde destacan para mi gusto "It's Only the End of the World", "Interrupted Melody", la excelente y más sinfónica "New York Times", con arreglos de cuerda estilo ELO, "Up in the Eighties" y la rockera "Machines". Pero por encima de todo, desde el punto de vista progresivo hay que destacar la suite "Ambition", que cierra el álbum, algo que también hacen A.C.T. en sus discos. Una excelente suite progresiva-sinfónica, con muchos cambios.
Un muy buen álbum que gustara a todo aquel que le gusten el progresivo basado en canciones simples y muy melódicas, cercano al AOR y al hard rock.
